Extortionist held, collected details from feedback forms

NEW DELHI: Submitting personal details in a feedback form could look like a casual affair but you would have never thought it could lead someone to steal your personal details and later extract money from you.
Delhi Police Crime branch carried out a massive manhunt in the remote villages of Madhya Pradesh and succeeded in arresting a notorious extortionist posing as underworld don "Rizwan Khan" who demanded upto Rs 5 crore from several businessmen of Delhi and other parts of country.
From the possession of arrested extortionist, who has been identified as Pranay Tiwari, 27, a resident of Rewa in Madhya Pradesh, one mobile phone, SIM Card being used for making the extortion calls and trap money has been recovered by police.
"He simply extracted this nonchalant behavior of visitors at the store (chocolate shop) where he worked as supervisor in Delhi and collected all their personal information through feedback form. Since the accused had a lot of personnel information such as birthday, anniversary dates etc, he would stun his victims by revealing these details in his extortion SMS," said DCP Crime Rajesh Deo.
In June, a west Delhi based businessman complained in the office of ISC, Crime Branch, wherein it was alleged that one person identifying himself as underworld don Rizwan Khan has demanded Rs 1 crore from him.
Investigation revealed that with the same mobile number, several other businessmen in Delhi and NCR received same death threats.
"Our technical surveillance sowed that the extortionist was based in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh and was making the extortion calls from distant locations to avoid the police dragnet," said Deo.
Later, the cops used a delivery bait to lure the accused in Rewa from where he was caught red handed taking away the parcel of money on September 11.
