Explore parking options in Nizamuddin: LG

NEW DELHI: Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Saturday directed South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) to explore the feasibility of construction of three parking lots on identified sites in the peripheral areas of Nizamuddin Basti.
Baijal, along with his official team, visited the World Heritage Site of Humayun Tomb and Lodhi Road crematorium on Saturday, where issues of traffic congestion and lack of parking facilities are very common.
"SDMC has been directed to prepare these plans within three weeks. One selected location could also serve as a spill-over parking to the adjacent Crematorium," said a senior officer.
Baijal was accompanied by the Commissioner of SDMC and senior officers of Delhi Development Authority, Delhi Traffic Police, Delhi Jal Board, Archaeological Survey of India, Aga Khan Trust for Culture, Delhi government's Public Works Department and community representatives from Hazrat Nizamuddin Basti among others.
Baijal directed the SDMC Commissioner to make arrangements for parking 100 buses during the annual Urs at the parking created over Sunehri Nallah for the Commonwealth Games, which is being underutilised by DIMTS. The LG also instructed that creation of additional facilities such as shelters, toilets, cooking areas be also explored.
