Ex-JD(U) MLA, 3 others held; woman succumbs to injuries
New Delhi: The 42-year-old woman, who was allegedly shot at by ex-JD(U) MLA Raju Singh during celebratory firing at New Year's Eve party, died early on Thursday. Police claimed that they have added murder section to the case while have also nabbed the former legislator, his wife and two others. The former MLA and his driver Hari Singh, who had fled Delhi after the incident, were arrested on Thursday after being detained from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh a day before. Singh's wife Renu Singh, a former member of Bihar's legislative council along with Raminder Singh, who worked for the leader, were allegedly arrested for destroying evidence, police said. During questioning, the former MLA's wife was evasive, sources said.
Deputy commissioner of police (south) Vijay Kumar confirmed Gupta died during treatment at the hospital in Vasant Kunj. He also denied reports claiming that accused met victim's family in the hospital. "Raju Singh and Hari Singh were taken to AIIMS to conduct their medical before producing them to the court. During medical, they were also taken to the Forensic Department of AIIMS in order to get their hands cleansed. In the same building, the mortuary is also situated. They were taken with adequate police staff and were barred from meeting Victim's family there," said DCP South.
Forensic tests were also conducted on the accused to ascertain who fired the shots. Police had earlier seized two rifles and 800 bullets from Raju Singh's farmhouse in Vasant Kunj area. The police have added IPC Section 302 in the FIR which pertains to punishment for murder with a maximum term of life imprisonment or death sentence, after Archana Gupta, who was hit by bullets, succumbed to injuries on Thursday. In his complaint to the police, victim's husband had said that they were at the farmhouse on Monday night to celebrate the New Year and around midnight, two-three rounds were fired by Raju Singh. Immediately, he noticed that his wife had fallen down and was bleeding.
