Ex-DUSU V-P booked for assaulting law student

Violence at Delhi University's North Campus area continues unabated, as a third year LLB students was assaulted by a group of 7-8 men, after he objected to one of them urinating inside the union room at the Law Faculty.

One of the students named in the complaint has been identified as the former vice-president of DU Students Union and ABVP leader, Sunny Dedha, who has been booked for the assault. The police so far have not taken any action against Sunny and are mulling over the future course of action.

According to a senior police official, the incident took place on Friday evening at around 4.30 pm, when the complainant Pradeep and his friend Vineet were studying in the union centre of Law Faculty.

In his complaint, Pradeep alleged that one of the students from the group started to urinate inside the union centre through an open window.

The student objected to the act and soon an argument ensued between Pradeep and the student, which turned violent.

Soon, a group of 7-8 people, who were all reportedly friends with Sunny Dedha, confronted Pradeep. Sunny assaulted Pradeep and in the ensuing melee, was viciously assaulted. His friend, Vinnet tried to intervene but he too was assaulted.

Pradeep further alleged that one of the boys from the group picked up a steel chair and flung it at his head resulting in a head injury.

A PCR call was made and the police were informed about the incident.

"We shifted both the students to Bara Hindu Rao hospital and they were treated for the injuries. We later recorded their statements and registered an FIR under Sections 323(voluntarily causing hurt), 341(wrongful restraint) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), has been registered at Maurice Nagar police station," said a senior police officer.
