EOW books Unitech for duping buyer on pretext of selling flat

New Delhi: The Delhi Police Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has booked Unitech Limited and it's directors for cheating buyer on the pretext of providing flat.

The complainant told police that he was approached by the representative of a realty firm. He was lured to book a flat in the upcoming project named Sunbreeze at Sector 69 in Gurgaon.

Police said that the complainant had applied for a house in the project. The total consideration of the apartment was fixed nearly Rs 87.10 lakh. The complainant in the case claimed that over Rs 89.65 lakh was paid. The total consideration was to be discharged by the complainants as per the plan provided in the buyer's agreement.

According to police, the buyer's agreement was signed in the year 2010. "The complainant regularly visited the site but was surprised to see that the construction was never in reasonable progress. The complainant also visited the firm office but he only gets false promises," police said.

This way almost 48 months have passed after the original promised date of possession but the construction work was not completed. The site seemed to be an abandoned piece of partial construction, complainant further told police.

"At the time of sale of the flat, company had given rosy pictures and had made false promises to the complainant. The firm cheat complainant by not giving possession as agreed in the agreement till this date," police said. Even after several months, they have not completed the construction work. A case under sections 420, 406, 34 and 120 B of IPC was registered at EOW police station.

In Delhi itself, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has registered more than 200 cases against builders and real estate companies for cheating. According to Delhi Police data from 2017 to till August 7, 2019, as many as 52 cases were reported in 2017 whereas last year 127 cases were registered by EOW.
