EOW books pvt firm for duping traffic police unit of Rs 8.5 cr

New Delhi: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police has booked a private firm for cheating Delhi Traffic Police (DTP) by fraudulently acquiring a contract for installation and proper maintenance of "Red Light and Speed Check Camera Systems" (RL&SVCCS).

Investigators said that the company conned the department to the tune of Rs 8.5

crore.

Delhi Police said that based on enquiry, it was observed that the contract of installing and maintaining Red Light and Speed Check Camera Systems was awarded to Turbo consultancy private limited for 10 years by Delhi Police.

"After some time, an enquiry was conducted by a Delhi Police unit in which it was revealed that the private firm had committed fraud with DTP," police said .

Additional Commissioner of Police (EOW) OP Mishra told Millennium Post that they have registered a case. Further investigation is going on.

"Some irregularities were found. We are probing that," said Additional CP.

According to police, the firm identified as Turbo Consultancy private limited committed fraud from the year 2000 to 2017.

An enquiry conducted by the vigilance branch revealed that the private company misrepresented to DTP that it has the technical competence and knowhow to maintain the camera systems and provide technical support to the systems installed by them for a period of ten years but the systems did not work for the prescribed time period.

Police said that as a result, most valuable equipment acquired at a good cost by the department lay dysfunctional after one and half years of their purchase.

"The irregularities also caused serious operational disruption in terms of management of traffic prevention of road accidents and violations," a police official said adding that, none of the cameras installed by the firm lived their full life span.
