EOW arrests person for cheating

New Delhi: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police arrested a person for his involvement in a cheating case. The investigating agency found that the accused committed cheating through impersonating himself as an employee of a private company and bluffed the complainant.

Additional Commissioner of Police (EOW) Suvashis Choudhary said that they have arrested Puneet Motwani (38), a resident of Sector-82 in Faridabad, Haryana.

"Antecedents of accused, if any, are being ascertained," said Additional CP.

The investigators further said that the accused committed cheating through impersonating himself as an employee of private company. He bluffed the complainant saying that his investment in a company would earn him great profit and thereby got invested approx Rs three crore of the complainant in the account of a firm which was in the name of his own wife.

Police further added that in the complaint, the complainant had alleged that one Puneet Motwani has been in his contact since March 2014 as he invested in another private company and Puneet Motwani was an employee there.

"In 2016, Puneet informed the complainant that he joined another company and also gave his visiting card of wealth advisors, in the company with their office in Parliament-street," police said. The complainant alleged that Puneet Motwani further represented that a firm run by his company is the one meant for small investors and he could earn more benefits through the firm.

"Relying upon, the complainant has invested approx Rs 3 crores in firm funds since 2016 in his name as well as that of his family members.

"He also received emails from the several email Ids with domain confirming his investments in the said company showing his updated status," police said. Police further added that in August 2018, the complainant asked for the redemption of funds of Rs. 40 lakh in the account of his wife but this was not realized.

Thereafter complainant got suspicious and on enquiry, he learnt that domain does not belong to the company where accused told him that he was working and was purchased by Puneet Motwani himself from the internet domain registrar.
