Election for Ggn mayor on Friday

Gurugram: More than a month has passed over the declaration of results of Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) elections yet the citizens of Gurugram have not got the mayor of the city. The long wait may just get over as Friday (November 3) has been decided as a date when elections for important posts like mayor, deputy mayor and senior deputy mayor will be held.

As per law it is mandatory to get the house to function within a month of declaration of results. However, differences within the party are resulting in the delay.
The BJP was not able to attain majority in the civic elections that was held in September 24. However, the two Ahirwal leaders in form Rao Inderjeet Singh and Rao Narbir Singh came to the rescue of party by making 12 independents join the party. Differences have emerged within the party that councillor from which group will get the top post with both leaders tacitly laying the claim for the top post. To bring forth the reconciliation, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar also had the dinner with the councillors, yet that also did not make much of the difference.
Sources indicate that t here is likelihood that Madhu Azad who was victorious from ward -7 may be the next mayor of Gurugram. This is not for the first time when the veteran Ahirwal leaders have shown their influence in the politics of the city.
In the previous MCG
elections, most of the councillors who had won, were independents, most of them belonged to these leaders's camp. They later amalgamated with the Congress party for the post of mayor and the deputy mayor.
The political influence of the Ahir leaders is further set to increase as the sister in law of Gurugram MLA Umesh Aggarwal lost her seat to independent candidate Pramila Gaje Kablana by a huge margin. Aggarwal in 2014 had registered highest victory of margin by 80000 votes.
