Elderly man found hanging from ceiling fan inside his house

Greater Noida: An elderly man was found hanging from the ceiling fan inside his house at a residential society in Kasna area of Greater Noida on Wednesday morning.

Police said that the man had died around a week ago and the neighbors informed police when they felt a foul smell coming out of the

house.

Residents of the society said that the 65-year-old man lived alone in the house and was retired from a government job. As he was living alone and there was no one to look after him, police is also trying to ascertain the exact cause behind the incident.

According to police officials, the deceased has been identified as Narayan Singh.

The residents of the society felt a foul smell coming out of the flat and suspected something to be fishy. They alerted the police upon which a team from Kasna police station reached the spot.

A senior police officer said that upon reaching the house, they found it locked from inside and the door was broken in presence of other residents.

"Upon opening the main gate of the flat, we found that the man was hanging with the ceiling fan inside the house. A foul smell was coming out of the flat as the body was partially decomposed. We took the body into custody and sent it for the post mortem. We are investigating the actual reason behind the incident and are waiting for autopsy reports" said Nishank Sharma, Circle Officer-I, Greater Noida.

The officer further said that the man committed suicide under mental stress.

"Prima facie investigations showed that the man was under mental stress. He lived alone at his house and died around a week ago. We are trying to find out details from his family members and further investigations into the case are going on," added Sharma.
