Elderly madrasa teacher held for rape of 9-yr-old

NEW DELHI: An nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 70-year-old teacher inside a madarsa in Narela area of north west Delhi, police said on Wednesday.

The incident reportedly took place on February 25, after which the Delhi Police arrested the accused teacher on Tuesday. The girl was admitted to BR Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini, where doctors said that though she is in trauma her condition is stable. The madarsa teacher has been identified as Zakir Alam and was arrested after the girls parents informed with a complaint with the police on Monday.

The incident took place inside a madarsa in Narela's JJ colony. The girls, along with her parents, lives near the madarsa.

The accused had threatened the girl not to reveal the incident to anyone. However after she reached home, the girl fainted. Suspicious, the parents asked her what was the matter and the girl revealed the ordeal to her mother.

Swati Jai Hind, chairperson, Delhi Commission for Women, on Wednesday tweeted, "Feeling sick to the core. Seeing child rape survivor is gut wrenching. Her eyes, her pain, her trauma is inexpressible. 9 year old rape survivor has suffered severe injuries. Who is responsible? Both system and society -for its their deafening silence which ensures status quo."
