Dwarka-Najafgarh Metro line likely to open early next week

NEW DELHI: The Dwarka-Najafgarh Metro Corridor is now ready for operations and is likely to open early next week, officials said on Saturday.

Delhi Metro network which will expand to 377 kilometers with 274 stations across the city with the opening of this new section, will be the largest in the world, said Anuj Dayal, Executive Director, Corporate Communication of the DMRC. This corridor is known as Grey Line. It was not part of phase-3 section Metro and work was started in 2015.

Dayal briefed media persons in Concourse of Dwarka Metro premises just before traveling by newly Metro.

It is pertinent to mention that on Dwarka-Najafgarh Metro Corridor, the trial run and the inspection of the metro train with physical infringents (Civil structure) were conducted. There was no physical blockage during the movement of the train on the track.

The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety, Janak Kumar Garg, had inspected the 4.295 KM Dwarka-Najafgarh section on September 25 and finally gave approval on September 26 for operations, a senior DMRC official said.

This section, colour coded the Grey Line, consists of three stations - Dwarka (interchange with Blue Line), Nangli and Najafgarh, and it will connect the outer Delhi locality of Najafgarh with the rest of the city.

A peak hour frequency of seven minutes and 30 seconds shall be maintained on this stretch. The total travel time on this section shall be six minutes and 20 seconds.

Of the three stations in this corridor, Dwarka and Nangli are elevated ones, while Najafgarh station is underground.

The Grey Line will be connected with the Blue Line, which connects Dwarka Sector-21 to Noida Electronic City and Ghaziabad's Vaishali in Uttar Pradesh. After Dwarka sector 21, Dwarka will be the second interchange facility in the Dwarka subcity.

"The Najafgarh Metro station has come up at the extremely busy Delhi Gate intersection of Najafgarh locality. The location of the station is on the main Najafgarh road, with an adjoining area as well as many government schools," said Dayal.
