DUSIB toilets to go free from New Year

NEW DELHI: From the New Year, the toilets made by Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) at the JJ clusters of Delhi would be free of cost, the Delhi Government said on Friday.
In a decision, which is a relief to the residents of JJ Bastis all over Delhi, the board decided to waive off the user charges on the usage of 19,000 toilets run by DUSIB. These toilets would be free for usage from January 1, 2018. This comes as a New Year gift from Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led Government to the residents of JJ Colonies," the government statement stated.
It added that running of these toilets for free will incur a cost of Rs 50 crore, which the Delhi government would bear.
The officials after the meeting said that the board also approved the Winter Action Plan stating different activities to be conducted by DUSIB in coordination with other departments. The DUSIB Control Room for winter relief will start functioning from November 15, this year.
The meeting which was chaired the CM himself, also focused on the development of the JJ clusters of the city and also to make the Capital open defecation-free. The officials said that team would be made who will take care of this initiative.
