DU's admission process delayed due to installation of new features

New Delhi: Delhi University, which was expected to commence its admission process from May 24, has delayed it by few more days, according to an official. Last year, DU admission forms were released by May 15 but this year no date has been confirmed yet. However, officail says that admission process has been postponed due to the Lok Sabha election results and installation of new features.

Earlier, it was expected to begin by April-end, then it was postponed by May 21 and lastly there were assumptions that the DU application would begin from May 27, 2019, but that too could not start. When Millennium Post approached the DU academic council, the officials said that the confirmed date is yet to be announced.

Digging about the reasons for the delay, the DU official said that they are trying to incorporate new tech-based initiatives for making the varsity admission process smoother for students. That's why, it is causing a delay.

He also said, "We will add an online calculator in the DU admission portal and mobile- application which will calculate and inform students about their best four scores for the subjects they are applying for, through this way student will avert the confusion for selection of the best four subjects marks." "National Testing Agency has been asked to conduct the online entrance exam for the admission to the varsity," the official added.

The official also said, "From this year, many new rules are being enforced for DU admission, in which, the varsity is planning to give extra benefits to students belonging to rural areas. These are likely to be in terms of a pass percentage relaxation, however, the final decision on the same is yet to be announced."

"The process is delayed this year in comparison to last few years. The main reason for this could be rectification of problems and deficiency in the system. Another reason is upgradation of the software. Timely and hassle-free completion of admission process is as important as its opening. For this, a dedicated admission branch which works round the year just like examination branch, is required in such a big university," Dr Rasal Singh, Member, Academic Council, said. "Direction from CBSE to DU to align admission process with its results especially revaluation could be another important reason," he added.
