Duo who stalked, harassed minor girl nabbed

Two men involved in stalking and eve-teasing of a 14-year-old were nabbed by the Delhi Police from Palam, after the intervention of Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Wednesday.

The victim girl had lodged a complained about the eve-teasers on DCW's 181 women's helpline, after she received no response from the police helpline number.
According to the complainant, the incident took place on March 27 when she was on her way back home from a vegetable market.

She stated that the duo had been stalking her from the market. Following this, when she was at a secluded spot, the accused started passinglewd comments at her. The girl's sister, who had accompanied her during this ordeal, was also beaten up by the accused while she tried to rescue the victim.

Soon after the call to the helpline, the victim was aided by a DCW counsellor. The two then who went to Palam Police station and registered a case against the two accused under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

DCW Chief Swati Maliwal said: "Anyone who misbehaves with any girl or woman should not be spared. I encourage girls and women to call the 181 women's helpline immediately if they have felt threatened or abused under any circumstances."

The Commission recently helped rescue a 15-year-old teenager from the clutches of a man who had been sexually assaulting her. The accused was in a live-in relationship with the victim's mother.
