Duo who duped people by swapping ATM cards with fake ones arrested

NEW DELHI: Personnel from the Kalkaji police station in south east Delhi have busted a couple of ATM frauds, who used to swap ATM cards of unsuspecting people with fake ones at ATM booths and use their card to withdraw money.
The arrested duo was identified as Sanjay (25), a resident of New Usmanpur, and Imran (22), a resident of Sarai Kale Khan, police said on Saturday.
Three cases of cheating were cracked with the duo's arrest, who had cheated many people in south east and east Delhi, a police official said .
A woman from Govind Puri recently filed a police complaint that when she had gone to a Kotak Mahindra ATM at Govind Puri Extension, two youth entered the ATM and stood behind her.
Her ATM card fell on the floor and before she could pick it up, one of the youth picked it and handed it to her.
When she tried to withdraw money with her card, the transaction failed. After repeated attempts, she left the ATM kiosk.
However, 10 minutes later, she received a SMS that Rs.38,000 had been withdrawn from her account and Rs.12,000 had been transferred.
She then checked her ATM card, only to find that it had been swapped.
An FIR was soon registered based on her police complaint.
"CCTV footage was scanned by our team and enquiry was conducted in nearby areas of Kalkaji and Govindpuri. On the basis of a tip, on January 3, both Sanjay and Imran were nabbed from outside Axis Bank ATM in Kalkaji, where they were waiting for another victim." said DCP South East, Chinmoy Biswal.
