Duo nabbed in Dabri for fleeing away with rental car

NEW DELHI: Thieves have devised a new modus operandi and began taking help from cab aggregator apps to first book a cab and then rob the driver.
In one such case, a team of Crime Branch has apprehended two notorious criminals, identified as 22-year-old Sonu Kumar, a resident of Palam, and Parmod Kumar a resident of Uttam Nagar.
The accused had booked a car for a ride on the Ola app, from a number procured on fake documents, and robbed the booked Honda Amaze car at gun-point.
Subsequently, they rented a Scorpio car from the Zoomcar rental app, on the basis of the driving licence stolen from the Ola driver, taken the Scoprio car for self service and then fled away with it.
The driving licence of the Ola driver, the Scorpio car and a country made pistol with four live cartridges were recovered from possession of the accused persons.
After receiving information of their theft, a team of Crime Branch laid a trap for the accused.
On November 9, the accused were spotted by the team at Palam-Dabri Road near Barat Ghar, Dabri Gaon. The team stopped the car and arrested the two culprits on the spot.
"They had booked a Scorpio car from Zoomcar App and plugged-out the GPS of the car and fled away with it.
"They also had similarly taken three other cars from other companies and sold them in different parts of the country," said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Alok Kumar on Thursday.
