Two cheats who duped several people on the pretext of offering
genuine US dollars in exchange of their Indian currency have been arrested from Shahdra district.
Mohammad Fazlu and Abdul Rehman used to first offer genuine US dollar notes to lure their victims.
Later, when a bigger transaction would be made, they would replace the notes with detergent powder and flee with the Indian currency.
According to police, the case came to light when one Vasheem Alvi reported on February 10 that he met a person, Raju, who offered US 20 dollars for his Indian currency. Alvi agreed to the exchange and later, Raju offered him 1,134 notes of US 20 dollars for a price of Rs 2 lakh.
A police team was formed, who tracked the mobile phones of the accused and managed to catch them on Tuesday.
