Due to depression, 74-year-old bizman shoots self in bathroom

NEW DELHI: A 74-year-old businessman had shot himself dead at his residence in Sundar Nagar area of Delhi on Tuesday morning.

The police said he was depressed due to a disease he was suffering from. The body has been sent for the post-mortem. No suicide note was recovered from his possession.

When police received a PCR call at around 9 am on Tuesday morning about a man allegedly shooting self in Sundar Nagar in South East Delhi's Nizamuddin, the cops rushed to the spot.

The body of the businessman Yadav Nath Bhargav was lying in a pool of blood in the house. On verification of facts, it has revealed that Bhargava has his own dry cleaning business in Kashmiri Gate which is now being looked after by his son Gaurav since 1959.

The family told police that at about 08:15 am, on hearing a loud noise, Mamta Bhargava (wife) sent her domestic help to check and it was found that Bhargava was lying in the bathroom and blood was coming from temple region.

"His licensed revolver was also lying there. It was learnt that the deceased was suffering from hard cough problem from last six years and was in depression due to that. As no foul play was found or suspected by the family members, we have started inquest proceedings" said DCP South East Chinmoy Biswal.

As no foul play was found or suspected by the family members, hence inquest proceedings are on in the matter.

Crime team visited and inspected the spot and collected samples from the spot.

The body of the deceased has been sent for the postmortem.

Though, it is clear from the injury that the man died of a fatal wound from the bullet, however, since its unnatural death cops under the inquest proceedings will question the family and friends to further rule out any other probability.

The family's business was looked after by the son Gaurav. Police is also verifying what led the old man to take this extreme step all of a sudden.
