DU girl and juvenile brother kidnap 3-year-old, held

NEW DELHI: A first-year Delhi University student was arrested by Delhi Police for kidnapping her landlord's 3-year-old son and demanding a ransom of Rs 5 crore. She also roped in her juvenile brother. He too was apprehended. The shocking incident was reported from Ghitorni of Vasant Kunj South. The police with the help of technical surveillance solved the case within 24 hours and also rescued the child safely.

The parents reported the kidnapping of the child on Thursday and soon the cops knew it's a serious case when the accused person started demanding ransom on the "WhatsApp" to evade his identity and location. Immediately a case of kidnapping was registered and several teams were formed to identify and arrest the accused.

During the course of investigation, it was revealed that ransom messages were sent to the victim's father through WhatsApp. By technical surveillance, it appeared that hotspot of mobile of accused Sunita (name changed) was used for sending messages. During sustained interrogation, Sunita revealed that she hatched a conspiracy to kidnap the child for ransom with her brother. "Both hired a room nearby her resident in Ghitorni area and kept child in that room after kidnapping. Later they sent messages on the mobile of the victim's father for ransom. On the basis of technical surveillance and other evidences, accused was interrogated and she confessed her involvement in crime and also disclosed the place where the child was kept. The kidnapped child was rescued safely on the instance of the kidnappers," said DCP South West Devender Arya.

To earn easy and quick money, accused Sunita along with her minor brother hatched a conspiracy to kidnap the child in the month of August 2018. She used modern technique of WhatApp cloning to use two WhatsApp application in single device for demand of ransom amount. She also deceived an old man and cloned her number to use WhatsApp and send message with that number. To hide the victim, they hired a room and after kidnapping the child they kept the child in the same room and later demanded huge amount as ransom money from the father of the child via WhatsApp messages.
