Drunken drivers continue to pose law and order challenge at MG road

Drunken drivers continue to pose a challenge to law and order situation at MG road even as there have been deployment of personnel by the Gurugram Police to improve the conditions at Mall Mile.
On Saturday night, four women commuters were injured after a drunken driver who was over speeding hit the auto in which the women were travelling. The driver fled from the spot and could not be held.
Not only do the police personnel have to meet the menace of drunken rash driving but also the altercations by the drunken drivers that often have long confrontation with the officials when fined for the offence.
During weekends, there are more than 20 fines that are issued against the drunk drivers.
Several drivers that also includes like of Rahul Fazilpuria have been booked by the police for drunken driving.
In doing so, however, the police do not have to deal with the anger of the offenders but there have also been occasions where drunken drivers have even tried to physically harm the police officials.
Recently, the police arrested two people in their early 20's who tried to run over the SHO of Sector-29 police station when asked to stop.
"Drunken driving is a major law and order challenge at MG road. Every weekend we do a vigorous surveillance and take strict action against the drivers. There are certain miscreants who try to create ruckus and try to harm police officials. In such situation we deal with them as per law," said Inspector Vikas Kaushik, SHO- Sector-29
Besides issues of drunken driving, there have also been incidents of robbery that have been reported at the Mall Mile.
