Drunk SUV driver crushes girl to death

New Delhi: An SUV driven at high speed crushed minor girl to death in Punjabi Bagh area on Tuesday afternoon. The errant driver was drunk at the time of the incident and later apprehended.
A case under section 304 (Punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of IPC registered.
Police claimed that they received a PCR call regarding fatal accident at Cement Siding in Punjabi Bagh around 4 PM.
On reaching the spot, a Duster SUV (brown color) and the 10-year-old deceased girl found. "The deceased was living in JJ Colony area of Punjabi Bagh," police said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Monika Bharadwaj stated that on inquiry, it was revealed that the victim was walking on the uneven path leading to Jhuggies among bushes of vacant railway land.
"The SUV came at high speed and hit the girl," said DCP Monika.
Hearing the noise crowd started gathering at the spot and the errant driver ran away from there.
The investigation revealed that the vehicle was driven by one Munna Lal, resident of Jhuggi Cement Siding Shakur Basti. He does scrap work in the same area.
"The accused driver was later apprehended and during the medical examination, he found to be in the drunken state," DCP added. The vehicle belongs to one of his acquaintance.
Data on fatal accidents released by Delhi Traffic Police, accessed by Millennium Post, claimed that in 2017, as many as 504 cases of accidents involving pedestrian were reported. This year, the cases increased to 546. The data also claimed that in 2017, till September, 1,137 road accidents were reported, while till September this year, the number stood at 1,136.
