Drive against encrochment: Over 3.96L sqm of land cleared

New Delhi: Over 3.96 lakh sqm of land has been cleared of encroachment, from both permanent and temporary structures, in the national capital as part of an anti-encroachment drive, the DDA said today.

The drive began late April and the actions were taken based on the recommendations of a Special Task Force (STF), which has DDA vice-chairman, secretary to Lt Governor of Delhi, and commissioners of the three municipal corporations, among others as members. Over 1.36 lakh sqm of land was cleared of encroachment from permanent structures while 2.6 lakh sqm was cleared of encroachment from temporary ones, the DDA said.

Also, 2,725 vehicles were impounded and 8,584 miscellaneous items seized during the drive, it said. Roads spanning 973.22 km were also cleared of encroachment during the drive. At least 4,411 structures, both temporary and permanent, were demolished by authorities in various parts between April 27 and May 29.
