Double murder in Jyoti Nagar, 3 held

New Delhi: After a spurt of gang war in Delhi in the past few days in which several men were killed and many injured, two men have been shot dead in Jyoti Nagar due to past rivalry.

A gang of criminals gunned down a man while he was returning from gym in North East Delhi's Jyoti Nagar on Wednesday night. He was shot multiple times and the victim identified as Govind Thakur died on the spot. One of the stray bullets hit another passerby Akash ( 25 years ) who was returning from work. Akash succumbed to the injuries in the hospital later.

The goons left the place firing in the air after that to scare the other pedestrians. The accused has been identified as Anil a resident of Jyoti Nagar, who is absconding.

Police said that the accused and the victim Govind had an old rivalry and had lodged cases against each other in the past. Since both resided in the same area the rivalry grew stronger and on Wednesday, the accused Anil came with his associates and fired upon Govind as he stepped out of the gym and was walking towards his home. The assailants also stabbed him with a knife to make sure he died.

The police soon arrived at the spot and the two men were taken to the hospital where Govind was declared brought dead and Akash soon succumbed to his injuries. Akash was working at a footwear shop and was caught in the firing while he was returning home.

According to sources, Anil has earlier too attempted to kill Govind and an FIR was also lodged in this context three years back. However, on Wednesday night after following Govind's movements the accused tracked him and sot his dead.

"The three accused Aman, Ashu and Ankit has been arrested by our team from Meerut, All of them are 19 years of age," said Atul Thakur, DCP North East.The main accused Anil is stil absconding and police has made several teams to locate his whereabouts and arrest him. The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their families after the post mortem was conducted. Police is keeping a tight vigil in the area to stop any further escalation in the situation.
