Domestic maid commits suicide in Safdarjung Enclave

New Delhi: A young domestic help in her 20's has allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a swing on a terrace of a building in south-west Delhi's Safdarjung Enclave, in which she used to work, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on December 27, they said. Police said that the woman worked as a domestic help at the residence of one Dr Gagandeep Gill.

When police reached the spot, they found the woman hanging herself from a swing on a terrace of a building, a senior police officer said. No external injuries were found on the body, he said.

A suicide note was recovered from the spot in which she hinted about being in a relationship with someone, he added. "The recovered note stated that "I love you and I cannot live without you", the officer said. She also mentioned her brother asking him to take care," he said.

"Police denies any foul play in the matter saying that the girl had visited her parents' home on December 6-13 in connection with talks of her marriage," he further added.

The officer said prima facie it appears that the girl was not happy with the marriage proposal although. All angles are being covered in the probe, the officer said. After post-mortem of the body was handed over to the family of the deceased on the same day. The girl's family has now alleged that police did not investigate the matter thoroughly.
