Doctor commits suicide, police probe harassment
New Delhi: A 52-year-old woman, consultant radiologist at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RML), allegedly committed suicide in New Delhi's North Avenue area on Wednesday.
Police claimed that they have recovered from the spot. The investigating agency claimed that the woman had alleged harassment by few doctors and legal proceeding has been initiated in the case.
According to a source at the RML, a departmental inquiry had been initiated against her for a long time and because of this inquiry, she was under depression for the last few days.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) claimed that on Wednesday they received a PCR call regarding the incident and rushed to the spot.
The deceased was later identified as Dr Poonam Vohra (consultant Radiologist at RML) who lived with her family in North Avenue.
"She had committed suicide commit suicide by hanging herself and the flat where the incident took place was locked from inside," said Additional DCP (New Delhi).
From the inspection of the spot an alleged suicide note recovered. "She had alleged harassment by few doctors. The probe is going on in this regard," Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi).
The police also investigating the angle whether the deceased had shared the harassment problems with her family members.
"She was living with her husband Charanjiv Vohra and two children in Central government employees society. Her husband is working as a consultant in Mainpuri, UP," police said.
For the further clue, police questioning few persons including doctors and other known persons to the deceased.
NOT FIRST TIME
This type of incident does not happened for the first time in the city as in 2017, a junior resident doctor was found hanging at his residence in central Delhi's Old Rajender Nagar.
In 2018, a 48-year-old nursing attendant allegedly committed suicide in the hospital.
The deceased was identified as Sanjay Kumar, a resident of Vijay Vihar area in Rohini, who was a hospital employee.
In December last year, a 34-year-old doctor allegedly committed suicide by jumping off from the fourth floor of his apartment in south Delhi's Hauz Khas.
