DJB official spots bund construction on river course

New Delhi: Delhi Jal Board (DJB) official assigned to visit Tajewala barrage to monitor and report about the E-flow and river flow sighted construction of bund and blockade while he was visiting various places to monitor the visual quantum of the river water flow.

According to DJB, the official spotted it about 17 kilometres downstream of Tajewala barrage. He spotted many men building a bund/blockade which was being made on the main river course. The point is just at the downstream of the confluence of river Somb and river Yamuna.

This blockage amounts to stoppage of drinking water flow to Delhi, stopping of the natural course of the river and causing instant death of the flora and fauna downstream. The blockage could hit Delhi's drinking water supply hard if the remedial action is not taken immediately.

The water which is being supplied to Delhi in the river course is directly being supplied under the cover of the orders of the Supreme Court. Thus this also amounts to contempt of court.

The Delhi Jal Board has informed the situation and has asked for immediate remedial action through letters to the Government of India, Government of Haryana, Chief Secretary Delhi, NGT and the Learned Monitoring Committee appointed by the NGT.
