Differences between EcoGreen and MCG out in open

Gurugram: On May 14, the Millennium Post had reported how mounds of garbage was piling up not only because of the strike by sanitation workers but also because of the differences between the municipal body and a Chinese company entrusted with the task of picking up garbage.
Recently, the commissioner of Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), Yashpal Yadav, had said that no payments were made to EcoGreen company in view of large-scale complaints that garbage is not being removed by the company.
The statement by the Commissioner comes at a time when there have been a large number of complaints against the Chinese company for not picking up garbage from the homes.
As per the contract, the Chinese company was to collect the garbage from the homes of the residents, transport it to Bandhwari and then recycle it. The initiative that was to be introduced in Gurugram and Faridabad has not borne fruit.
Not only the garbage is not being collected but also it is not being recycled and the waste from Gurugram and Faridabad is only adding to the mounds of garbage being piled up at Bandhwari.
Besides levying a fee on the residents for the collection of garbage from their residence, the EcoGreen company is also being paid by the MCG.
Amid differences between the civic body and the Chinese company, the cleanliness of Gurugram is being compromised.
The sanitation workers in the state are on an indefinite strike for past ten days. With the garbage piling up, the MCG has started a round-the-clock campaign where most of its workers have started clearing the streets of garbage.
Moreover, MCG has sounded optimistic that steps are being taken to ensure that citizens effectively segregate waste generated in their homes, not many seem to be impressed by the claims of the MCG.
Most of the environmental activists and members of resident welfare associations have complained that the MCG is making a slow progress in improving the situation at Bandhwari landfill site.
Further, there have also been complaints that vacant areas around the colonies are being used by the MCG officials to dump the garbage.
