Delivery boy electrocuted to death in Mayur Vihar

New Delhi: A delivery boy working with food delivery company Swiggy was electrocuted to death when he accidently grabbed an electric pole in Mayur Vihar Phase-III area of east Delhi, police said on Saturday.

Cops said that on Friday, around 7 pm, the 24-year-old victim Rahul Kumar died instantly from the shock, despite which he was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital.

The incident took place in Pocket A2 area of Mayur Vihar Phase-III.

"Kumar was confirming the address with a customer, when he slipped on the road as it was raining and grabbed on to an electric pole. He was immediately electrocuted and immediately rushed to the hospital, but he had died already," said a colleague who worked with Rahul.

Cops have registered a case in the incident and handed over Kumar's body to his family members.

"A case under sections 336 and 304 (A) has been registered and investigation is underway," DCP East Pankaj Singh told Millennium Post.

Employees of Swiggy on Saturday demanded immediate action against the accused persons, whose negligence caused Kumar's death.

They also staged a protest at the Swiggy headquarter in Noida demanding compensation to his family, and collected some money to be given to his family as their financial condition is poor.

Kumar's family members reached Delhi from Chhapra in Bihar to claim his body. Sources said Kumar's father had passed away 15 years ago.

"Rahul got married three months ago. We never expected he would face this fate. Whosoever is at fault should be punished. Their negligence has ruined the life of our family and the newly-wed girl. The accused should not be let off," said Suman Kumar, Singh, the victim's uncle.

In a similar incident in June, an 18-year-old aspiring pilot was electrocuted to death also after he grabbed an electric pole in Dwarka.
