Delhi Police starts 'Neighbourhood Watch Scheme' in Dwarka

New Delhi: In an attempt to involve citizens in the process of ensuring safety in the city, Delhi Police on Saturday started the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme (NWS) and Automated Boom Barrier System in Dwarka in Sanskriti Apartment. Under this scheme, residents of the society will be responsible for keeping an eye out for suspicious activity in their areas. With the NWS in place, residents will be able to keep each other apprised of any suspected illegal activities in their neighbourhood, according to a statement issued by police.

Police said that the mechanism of Neighbourhood Watch Scheme, which aims at enhancing the security of a neighbourhood by harnessing the capabilities of its residents, has been revived as the main thrust area of the people-police interface. Police said officers from Sector 23 officers will from time to time check in on residents to keep tabs on whatever information they might have developed.

In addition to this, Sanskriti Apartment will also start using Automatic Boom Barrier System. With this procedure in place, vehicles belonging to residents of the society will be given a permit setting them apart from outsiders' vehicles. All vehicles without the permit will have to pass through a sophisticated security screening procedure before they can enter or leave the premises. Anto Alphonse DCP (Dwarka District) and Additional DCP RP Meena interacted with the residents regarding the safety and security in their area.
