Delhi Police Special Cell guns down wanted criminal in UP

New Delhi: In a joint operation conducted by Special Cell of Delhi Police and Uttar Pradesh police, a wanted criminal was shot dead in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh.
Police said a UP police constable also got injured during the gun battle. The deceased was identified as Shamim (30), a native of Muzaffarnagar.
In September 2016, the accused along with his associates had committed a very sensational broad daylight robbery of Rs 40 lakh at gunpoint in the area of Daryaganj Police Station.
The gun battle took place on Saturday when a police team received information that the accused was hiding in Muzaffarnagar.
During the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday accused Shamim along with one associate was spotted in a car near Bhalwa area.
DCP (special cell) PS Kushwaha said Shamim and his associate were asked to surrender but the accused opened fire on police teams. In self-defense police team also fired back.
During the exchange of fire, Inspector Shiv Kumar got hit on his bulletproof jacket and one constable Ashok Khari of SOG UP police was grievously injured.
Shamim and his associate were also injured in this exchange of fire.
However, the associate managed to escape in the dark and Shamim was found injured in the car.
"One 9 mm pistol was found with him. Injured Constable Ashok Khari and accused Shamim, were immediately taken to the hospital where Shamim was declared brought dead by the doctor. The injured constable is under treatment," said the DCP.
