Delhi Police launches NEAT patrolling vehicles

New Delhi: Delhi Police is adding a new vista in its wings in the form of specially mandated patrolling vehicles by the name of North East Assistance Team (NEAT). These NEAT will cater to the distress callers or victims who are natives of seven sisters North Eastern State but reside in Delhi.

According to police, there are certain pockets in Delhi that have a high concentration of North Eastern natives. Apart from the NEAT vehicle, two additional MPVs Zebra-59 with its base point at Munirka and Commander-11 with its base point at Batra Cinema have especially been tasked to patrol in these areas and also to attend distress calls emanating from these areas. These two NEAT vehicles will be manned by police personnel belonging to the North Eastern states.

Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs on Sunday layed foundation stone of the new building of SPUWAC and SPUNER in a function organized by SPUWAC and SPINER, Delhi Police at Nanakpura, South Moti Bagh, New Delhi in the august presence of Anil Baijal, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Amulya Patnaik, Commissioner of Police Delhi and other Delhi Police officers.

Before this, the MoS (Home) also flag off two NEAT (North-East Assistance Team) vehicles which will be manned by police officers of North-East regions.

The Delhi Police press statement stated that Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Government of India landed the Delhi Police commitment to give the secure environment to people, especially to women, children and to the north east citizens.

He further stated that the community should not feel vulnerable as Delhi Police continuously making efforts to feel them safe and secure in every situation.

Anil Baijal, LG Delhi commended the initiatives to launch NEAT vehicles which will be dedicated to cater the distress callers/victims of people from north eastern region of India in Delhi.

Amulya Patnaik, Commissioner of Police, Delhi wished his best and assured that the units will make continuous progress in their work in this interest of the public at large.

He further stated that the area of Delhi having a high concentration of North Eastern natives will be specially patrolled by the NEAT vehicles.

He also confirmed that PCR Vans patrolling the areas where a large number of people from North East resides will have at least one police personnel from the North East region.
