New Delhi: In a bid to accomplish its goal of 1,000 Mohalla Clinics in the country's Capital, the Delhi government is set to inaugurate 103 clinics by October 20. Each of the 103 Mohalla Clinic has been approved by the Public Works Department (PWD). Around 10-15 Mohalla Clinics are likely to be inaugurated by the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in Mangolpuri, Vikaspuri, Burari, and Kirari, while the remaining will be inaugurated by the MLAs of their respective constituency.

Last week the Health Minister and in-charge of PWD, Satyendar Jain wrote a letter to the PWD Secretary which said, "By this week all 103 Mohalla Clinics should be ready and functional. He also directed the Health Department to appoint doctors in all 103 Mohalla Clinics," said sources at the Delhi government. "All furnitures and equipment have been set up and the infrastructure is done. Appointment of doctors is yet to be finalised. The Delhi government will only inaugurate the Mohalla Clinics once it is completely ready. The Delhi government plans to inaugurate 100 Mohalla Clinics each month till December which can be translated to 300 Mohalla Clinics to be inaugurated by December, 2019. Currently there are 210 Mohalla Clinics functioning in the country's Capital. As per reports, 1.62 crore patients have visited Mohalla Clinics from 2015 till July, 2019. Out of these, 80 per cent visitors comprised of women, senior citizens, and children and Rs 375 crore was allocated for the development of Mohalla Clinics and polyclinics this year.

According to the new guidelines the minimum area for setting up clinics has also been reduced from 50-60 square metres to 40 square metres. Some of these selected areas for Mohalla Clinics is under the Jal Board and Delhi government or others said a source. Majority of the Mohalla Clinics are expected to be in rented spaces or portable cabins. The Delhi government had earlier decided that rent for these Mohalla Clinics would not be more than Rs 20,000 but now in order to increase the number of Mohalla Clinics sooner the state government has increased the rent up to Rs 35,000.
