Delhi Police relaunches Traffic Sentinel App, to reward citizens for clicking pictures of traffic violators

To lure common man to report traffic violations, the Delhi Police has designed a format to reward traffic sentinals by giving them points that could be a free movie ticket, free T-shirts or even a motorbike.

In order to inculcate a habit of traffic discipline among citizens, Delhi Police has on

Tuesday re-launched Traffic Sentinel Mobile app under Traffic Sentinel Scheme for general public with new added features. The app was launched initially on in 2015.

The re-launched Mobile App, 'Traffic Sentinel' introduced is encouraging members of industry/corporate houses to come forward and contribute by way of sponsoring prizes for this scheme, making Delhi a city free from traffic violations.

"Citizens to become 'Traffic Sentinel' a user will have to download the application and get enrolled.

For each photograph or video uploaded,

the user will get an acknowledgement and a unique transaction number.

Later if the offence and the vehicle number is clear in the photograph or video, the same will be validated at

backend at the Traffic Police Headquarters, and reward points will be allocated to the sender.

Once minimum number of points are acquired, the Traffic Sentinel will be entitled for a prize," said Mr. Ajay Kashyap, Special Commissioner of Police.

The Traffic Sentinel Scheme will be accessible through the existing "Delhi Police One Touch Away" App on Android and "Delhi Traffic Police" App on iOS.

Common citizens can report Traffic offences, 11 basic types of Traffic Violations can be reported where maximum 5 points would be awarded for reporting driving against the flow of traffic , triple riding and without helmet will fetch you 2 points each.

Three points would be awarded for reporting Red Light jumping.

The Traffic Sentinels will get rewards like dinner coupons, movie tickets, free talk time, utility items,

T-shirts or caps with Traffic Sentinel logo etc. for certain amount of reward points earned.

The bumper prizes, for which all Traffic Sentinels earning reward points beyond a certain level will be eligible, will include Honda Motorcycle or Scooter and even free air tickets.
