Protest against building open gym in Ghaziabad

Following the laws and the National Green Tribunal's orders to use only the 5 per cent area of parks for construction and other such activities, the environmental preservation bodies of Ghaziabad has raised an objection on the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation's decision to build open gym and shelter rooms for old aged in the parks of residential colonies across the district.
The corporation has recently proposed to build open gyms and shelter homes at parks in its districts.
They call it to be an illegal encroachment on the green land and termed it as an publicity stunt because of municipal elections being round the corner.
Akash Vashishta, an environmental activist from Ghaziabad in a press conference told reporters that "the district municipal authority is only authorized to take care of the maintenance of the parks in the city. They cannot pursue any construction on these parks without taking the permission from the local governing body".
"We want the district municipal corporation first measure the area occupied by the pathways and other civil constructions in each park.
"If they account to be below 5 per cent, then only they should pursue the construction of the open gym and shelter rooms. However we want these to be built in the community centers of the residential sectors" Akash further added while addressing the press conference.
