Robbers steal Rs 5 lakh from police challan office
A group of robbers stole Rs 5 lakh from the challan branch of Gurugram police office at Manesar.
Besides robbing cash, the miscreants also took the impounded licences and the registration certificates of the vehicles.
The incident was reported on the night of June 5 after the burglars broke the window panes of the office and carried out the heist.
Ironically, the robbers were successful in carrying out the act even after the office is located in a highly guarded area of the city.
Angry over the incident, the Gurugram Police has suspended the cop who had the responsibility of taking care of the challan money for the dereliction of the duty.
A case has been registered uder section 457 (house breaking) and 380 (theft) IPC at Manesar Police Station.
As of now, no arrests have been made in the case.
Taking cognisance of the seriousness of the case, even Sandeep Khirwar, the Gurugram Police Commissioner acknowledged carelessness and stated there will be a departmental inquiry to study the lapses that led to the loss.
"The incident is a lesson for us that we must be vigilant at all the times or else even we can become victims.
"Action against the official who was responsible for taking care of cash has been initiated and there are more officials under the scanner," said a senior Gurugram Police official.
