Deputy CM Sisodia inaugurates workshop on biomedical waste

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Friday while inaugurating a workshop on 'Implementation of Biomedical Waste Management Rules 2016', stressed upon the need for creating mass awareness regarding the provisions and rules related to Bio-Medical Waste.
The workshop was organised by Bio-Medical Waste Management division, DPCC (Delhi Pollution Control Committee) at Delhi Secretariat.
The workshop was presided over by the Minister of Environment, Imran Hussain.
The Speakers from various fields such as regulatory agencies, implementing authorities, gave their lectures and presentations on different issues covering BMW
management to enlighten the stakeholders to achieve a goal of effective
compliance of various provisions.
"With the superseding of the Biomedical Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 1998 by Biomedical Waste Management Rules, 2016, everyone, who is handling or generating biomedical waste in national capital, are now required to apply and obtain authorization from Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC)," audiences were told during the workshop.
All persons who generate, collect, receive, store, transport, treat, dispose, or handle Biomedical Waste (BMW) in any form including hospitals, nursing homes,
clinics, dispensaries and research labs, irrespective of their size, are liable for the same.
