Warden atBhondsi jail caught with sulpha drug, arrested

A jail warden at Bhondsi jail was arrested by the authorities after being caught with 100 grams of sulpha drug.
The official was trying to sell the drug to one of the prisoners.
The warden who has been identified as Mahender will be charged under the Narcotics Drug and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
According to police, the incident was reported last week from the jail. The accused official had hidden the drugs under his socks. However, based on the suspicion he was checked by the authorities which resulted in him being caught. The official have confessed his crime.
"We are trying to figure out more detail from the accused on how he got hold of these drugs. For how long was he selling it in the jail and who is he in touch with for getting these drugs," said Narender Khatana head in charge of Bhondsi jail.
Serious questions have been raised over the functioning of Bhondsi jail. In a raid conducted last month 20 mobile phones, 12 SIM cards and 2 chargers were recovered from the prisoners.
A large number of dreaded gangsters that are hauled up in the prison are believed in contact with their colleagues through collusion with the jailed officials.
Taking cognisance of the dangers involved a demand for transferring some of gangsters to Tihar have been long overdue.
