Improve infrastructure of sport complexes: LG asks DDA

Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal expressed his anguish over the poor maintenance and management of DDA sports complexes, sport fields and others facilities.
Baijal on Wednesday reviewed the functioning of Delhi Development Authority's Sports Management Board at Raj Niwas. The meeting was attended by senior DDA officials, including the Vice-Chairman, Engineer Member, Finance Member and Sports Commissioner.
Baijal stressed that young talent should be groomed through quality coaching in the DDA sports Complexes and noted that both under and over utilisation, as reported from certain Sports complexes, should be worked upon.
He desired that prominent sportspersons and renowned coaches be included in the Sports Management Board and asked DDA to increase the number of sports complexes with facilities like walking tracks, open gyms in Delhi.
Baijal asked DDA to develop dedicated sports complexes to cater to the sporting needs of differently-abled sportspersons and to provide facilities for archery, football and other such sports facilities for children.
The LG also directed officials to lay down specific guidelines so that the basic safety procedures in sports complexes are clearly outlined.
The Sports Management Board, constituted in 1989, is responsible for supervision, planning and development of sports infrastructure in Delhi.
