Nigerian cheating gang busted by Crime Branch

A gang, allegedly run by Nigerian nationals, involved in selling fake herbal root seeds for cancer research on social networking sites, was arrested by the Navi Mumbai branch of Delhi Police crime branch on last Wednesday.
According to Delhi Police Crime Branch, the accused have been identified as George Ike, Ugwuele Bright Onyeka and an Indian national Vishal Sharma.
They were arrested after the police traced the bank accounts in which the money transfer was noticed after which their locations were identified.
The incident came to light when S Rahul, a resident of Sarita Vihar in Delhi, reported to police that he had come in contact with the accused on Facebook.
"The accused told the police that they were involved in a deal regarding Aquasiotin Herbal Root seed, which they claimed was used to cancer research. The accused convinced him to pay Rs 13 lakh for the deal," said a senior Crime Branch official.
The complainant was contacted by a woman reportedly belonging to a gang, claiming that she was the Assistant Purchase Manager in Health Pro Pharmaceutical Company in Britain.
The woman had lured him into buying the seeds at "low price", after which he could further sell it to her company for a profit.
"The victim agreed to buy five packets for Rs 13 lakh and later, another man from the company who introduced himself as Dr Cosmos Brown told him that the company would undertake a partnership for 50 more packets," the official added.
The accused had come to India a few years ago on a business visa and later decided to start cheating people after they had suffered losses in their ventures.
