'Band Baja Baarat' gang busted by cops, one arrested

A joint team of Anti-Robbery Cell, South West District, and Kapashera, has busted a notorious "BAND BAJA BAARAT" gang, involved in bag lifting incidents reported recently from the marriage functions held at Farm Houses in South West Delhi.
Also, they have recovered Rs 4 lacks stolen cash, gold, and silver jewellery articles and other items gifted to the bride is worth around Rs. 8 lakhs.
On June 19, Manoj Choudhary, a Delhi and Gurgaon-based businessman reported that his dark green colour briefcase containing cash golden and silver jewellery, expensive wrist watch, etc. was stolen from his daughter's marriage function held at Kamya Palace, Bijwasan, New Delhi.
A case was registered at Kapashera. Similar incidents were reported from other marriage functions. "The team analysed all the video footages and deployed sources at various banquet halls, farmhouses to gather intelligence about the presence of the suspects. After this, it was revealed that three people including two juveniles were involved," said DCP South West Surender Kumar.
It has also been revealed that the crime was committed by suspects after spending considerable time at the venue .
The accused used to dine and patiently wait for the opportune time to strike. They were dressed in proper wedding attires.
After entering the venue, all of them mingled with the crowd and targeted the person with cash.
Based on intelligence inputs, the cops arrested Raka from his rented house in Pochanpur, New Delhi.
Raka disclosed that he had been running a branch of criminals hailing from Rajgarh and committed several incidents of bag lifting from marriage functions.
"We engage minors aged between 9-15 years in the commission of the crime. Also, we hold auctions in Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh on the basis of their potential and intelligence. The bid sometimes crosses Rs 10 lakh for a kid," confessed Raka.
