Two cops arrested for sandalwood smuggling

Two Delhi Police personnel were arrested in the case of sandalwood robbery from a godown in North West Delhi area on Friday.
The accused were identified as sub-inspector Anuj and constable Manoharlal.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (north-west) Milind Dumbre confirming the arrest, said, "Anuj is posted with Kashmere Gate police station while Manoharlal is a constable with Special Cell."
According to police sources, the incident took place on Tuesday, when a few men including the two cops barged into a sandalwood godown in Swaroop Nagar extension area of Bhalswa Dairy.
The guard of the godown, Maniram, was roughed by the accused. But, somehow he managed to escape.
Following this, the accused robbed the sandalwood and fled the spot.
Soon, a PCR call was made.
"During the investigation, the names of the two cops cropped up who were later interrogated and then arrested," added sources.
The DCP added that Maniram identified the accused and also through surveillance of the phone number, they were found at the spot on the day of the incident.
"The call details and the phone location proved that the two policemen were present at the time of the incident," added the DCP.
A case under appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered and further investigation is on.
