Heavy debt drives man to suicide in Harsh Vihar

A moderator from a local playschool committed suicide by hanging himself inside one of the rooms on Monday.

The reason cited in his suicide note is mounting debts.

The deceased, identified as Vikas, sent WhatsApp messages to his relatives and left a suicide note saying the reason he took the extreme step is because of the heavy debt from his business he ran alongside.

According to police, Vikas lives in Harsh Vihar with his wife Vinita and two children.

The family said that Vikas was in a normal mood when he left for the playschool on Monday morning.

However, by afternoon they received a call from the police that he had committed suicide.

His body was later shifted to the local mortuary for post mortem and handed over to his relatives on Wednesday.

"His family told us that he had been suffering from mounting losses.

"He had been taking debts from local money lenders and was unable to pay back the money after which he took the extreme step," said a police officer.

The family had also claimed that the accused had lent around five lakh to one of his relatives and despite repeated attempts at recovering the lent amount, the relative refused to return the money.

The wife of the deceased has asked the police to take strict action against the relative claiming that he was responsible for her husband's death.
The police have so far not registered a case in this matter and are also looking into the claims made by the relatives of the deceased.
