Suspended guard held for duping people by posing as cop

The Ghaziabad Police have nabbed a home guard for allegedly robbing people by posing as a senior police officer and squeezing "bribes" out of their pockets.

The imposter was also found involved in several illegal activities in the area.

The accused, Pankaj Sharma, a resident of Pratap Vihar used to wear an attire of a sub-inspector to dupe people. He has been accused of citing traffic violations and other illegal collections.

The man was nabbed on Monday morning when he was going to supply 5 kilograms of Ganjha to a customer. The latter was driving a scooter with a monogram on police pasted in the front of the scooter.

"Acting on a tip-off, we deployed a police team near ABES College at NH-24, Ghaziabad. Pankaj was travelling on a white color Honda scooter carrying five kilograms of illegal Ganjha which he was supposed to supply to a customer. We have seized the vehicle and have registered a case against him in Vijay Nagar police station under sections 8/20 NDPS and 170 IPC," said Naresh Kumar Singh, station house officer, Vijay Nagar police station.
