Man stabs wife 35 times over suspected affair, injures son

Suspecting his wife of having an extramarital affair, a 43-year-old man viciously stabbed his wife, killing her on the spot inside their home in North-East Delhi's Dilshad Garden area on Wednesday.
The police have claimed that Rekha (36) was stabbed nearly 35 times before she succumbed to her injuries. Further, the couple's 15-year-old son, was also injured in the attack when he tried to shield his mother from his father's attacks.

The police have shifted the son, Vineet Bisht, to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. He is said to be in a stable condition.

The woman's body has been shifted to the local mortuary for post-mortem. The husband has been identified as Vinod Bisht, a manager working in a tent and catering company. He was apprehended around 9 pm from Dilshad Garden area itself.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Nupur Prasad, the police received a call in the wee hours of Wednesday from Vinod's brother, who lives in the same locality. "The brother of the main accused made a call around 6.15 am that the couple was fighting over some issue. A local team was deputed to the spot, but by the time the team reached, the accused had fled his house," said Prasad.

During investigation, it was found that Vinod had a confrontation with his wife. According to sources, he suspected Rekha of having an extramarital affair.

During this confrontation, the accused was carrying a bag with him. Soon, Vinod whipped out a knife he had reportedly concealed inside the bag and started stabbing his wife.

Rekha sustained around 11 severe cuts to her face, neck and back. The couple's son, who woke up to his mother's cries for help, tried to shield her but failed and sustained injuries from his father's attack. Vinod then went onto inflict a flurry of stabs, finally killing his wife.

After his son pleaded for help, finally Vinod fled the scene.

The police have registered a case of murder at Dilshad Garden police station.
