Eight 'absentee' doctors from Gurugram sent packing by Haryana Government

After a stern warning, the Haryana Government finally cracked the whip by dismissing 160 doctors that also includes eight doctors from Gurugram for being absent from duty for several weeks.
The State Health Minister on Tuesday wrote to the Chief Secretary of the Health Department asking him to expedite the process. On taking such a stern step, Vij stated that notices had been issued to the doctors earlier however they did not pay heed to the warning. He also highlighted that the Health Department was seeking a legal opinion in this regard.

Besides Gurugram, large numbers of doctors that have been dismissed are 10 doctors from Hissar, nine from Bhiwani, eight from Fatehabad and eight from Kurukshetra.

The move by the Haryana Government comes at a time whenthe city is preparing to not only tackle with vector-borne diseases of dengue and malaria but also is reeling under the crisis of water borne diseases like diarrhoea and typhoid.

Even before the arrival of monsoon, already more than 2000 cases of diarrhoea have been registered in the city public hospital. Also, there has been a dozen of serious cases of diarrhoea that are being reported daily.

Recently, 14 cases of dengue and 4 cases of malaria have also been reported from the city.

A large number of patients suffering from dengue and chikungunya last year had resulted in a shortage of beds in the city hospitals and many patients being referred to hospitals in Delhi for the treatment.
