BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma on Monday lodged a police complaint against journalist Rana Ayyub claiming that the scribe had made 'casteist comments' from her twitter account against the NDA pick for President- Ram Nath Kovind.
Sharma had lodged the complaint with the Delhi Police Commissioner and took to Twitter stating,:
"Lodged a complaint against Journalist Rana Ayyub under SC/ST Act, 1989 for her derogatory tweet about Hon'ble Ram Nath Kovind."
The surprise pick from the BJP-led NDA Government had cornered the opposition party who found it hard to oppose the presidential candidate due to his Dalit identity.
Many of them took to Twitter to express their views on Kovind and Ayyub also tweeted: "And you thought Pratibha Patil was the worst bet."
The complaint reads: "To classify a sitting and incumbent Hon'ble Governor of Bihar and now NDA nominee for post of President of India, namely Shri Ram Nath Kovind ji, as "Worst Best" for the post of Hon'ble President of India is not only directly undermining the abilities and position in society of a member of the Scheduled Castes but is also blatantly and scurrilously slanderous and casteist."
In response, Rana tweeted:
"If you are done with ur publicity stunt, can I send a copy of Gujarat files where some serious stuff is said about your leaders (sic)." The Delhi Police have so far not taken any action on Sharma's complaint and have claimed to look into the contents of the letter and decide the future course of action.
