After cut-offs drop at St Stephen's, other DU colleges begin deliberations

With the first cut-off list of St Stephen's College showing a marginal dip compared to the previous years, many colleges are expected to follow suit.

However, many college principals are deliberating on the cut-offs as online registration data is yet to be quantified.

Some principals told Millennium Post that there may a slight dip in cut-offs of various Humanities courses. However, aspirants will face an uphill task to secure admissions in coveted courses like BCom (Hons) and BA Economics (Hons).

Dr Dinesh Khattar, principal, Kirori Mal College, said his college will not be follow the cut-off trend set by St Stephen's, as his college has always had sky-high cut-offs.

"There is no connection between St Stephen's and other colleges. But there may be a slight drop in our cut-off, compared to that in previous years. There may be a slight dip in Humanities courses. But for courses like Economics, cut-offs will stay high due to the stiff competition," said Khattar.

This year, the Central Board of Secondary Education and the courts were at loggerheads over the marks moderation policy. After a long battle, CBSE finally agreed to continue with the policy; this reportedly caused a spike in the 45 per cent and 95 per cent category.

Due to the increase in students crossing the 95 per cent threshold, many feared that cut-offs may skyrocket this year. Taking these developments into consideration, Khattar said his college is looking into the data of applications received by DU.

When Dr Babli Moitra Saraf, principal, IP College for Women was contacted, she replied: "We can not say anything about the cut-offs as of now. We will have to wait for a few days for things to get clear."
Authorities at Sri Venketeswara College too are discussing the issue with principal Dr Hemlata Reddy. Dr Venkat Kumar, Convener, admissions at the College, said: "The matter has been deferred by a few days. We are discussing the cut-offs, and unlike Stephen's, our college cut-offs may follow last year's pattern."

The University's first cut-off list was supposed to be released on June 20, but has been postponed by three days.
