DU's online applications end, 2.21 lakh register

After extending the deadline by a day for aspirants who may have missed out on the Delhi University online admissions, the final date for application has come to an end with a total of 2.21 lakh applications received while a number of applications including trial accounts shot up to more than three lakh.

The University officials had faced several difficulties with the online application procedure this year. After learning from the past experiences, the officials had made elaborate preparations in advance by setting up two backup servers and several online teams to make sure that the admission process passes smoothly.

However, the online application process was riddled with technical glitches with several tabs were found to be not working in the early days of the process and University was still coordinating with various state boards to make sure the students from across the country are able to apply.

According to the DU data, the maximum applications received were on May 23 with 31, 886 candidates. However, the maximum number of applicants fees paid data was recorded on June 12.

Even though in various state board exams, girls have outperformed boys, but the data states that the number of male applicants dominated the admission process with nearly 1.63 lakh, a whopping 34, 684 more than the number of female applicants. Only 86 applications were received for the third gender. With the University following the reservation policy, a total of 69,866 applications were received from OBC candidates, while 36,926 candidates had applied under the SC category and 7,694 were received under the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. A total of 1,055 applications were received under the Kashmiri Pandit quota category, while 2,392 applications were received from the Children of War Widows category.

This year, the University had expanded the categories under the disabled students, and 1,531 applicants had applied, while the number of candidates with intellectual disabilities were 110 applications. The list of expanded categories also involved mental illness with 30 candidates applying in the category, total disability caused due to chronic neurological conditions and blood disorder (52 applicants), and 38 applicants with multiple disabilities.
In the ECA category, the most number of applications were recorded under the National Cadet Corps (3,281), compared to dance (2,797) and debate (2,572).
