Online applications for PG courses to open on June 7

Delhi University on Wednesday set June 7 as the date for opening the online applications process to nine entrance exam-based undergraduate courses, along with postgraduate, M.Phil and Ph.D programmes.

However, DU aspirants remain anxious as they still grapple with technical problems in the online application process for undergraduate programmes.

University officials said they have taken stock of the glitches and promised to resolve the issue before June 7.

Applications for PG courses were supposed to open on May 31; however, the process was delayed as the University had to shelve online entrance tests, after protests were held by right wing student organisations.
However, entrance test for nine undergraduate programmes will be held online. These courses are: Bachelor of Management studies, Bachelor of Business Administration, BA (Hons) Business Economics, BA (Hons) Music, Bachelor of Mass Media and Mass Communication, B.Tech (Information Technology and Mathematical Innovations), BA (Hons) Humanities and Social Sciences, and BSc Physical Sciences and Sports Sciences, Bachelor in Elementary Education.

The varsity scrapped online entrance test, claiming that conducting both online and offline would be unfeasible due to staff crunch and infrastructural issues.

"We looked at the issues put forward by students and, after deliberating, came to the conclusion that we cannot hold online entrance test for pg, MPhil, and PhD programmes," said a senior DU official.

Offline exams will be held in Delhi, Kolkata, Varanasi, Guwahati and Nagpur. In South, the centre would either be in Bangalore or Chennai. University officials said they will have to work overtime to prepare for the offline exams and have hinted that dates may be delayed. Several students, meanwhile, have welcomed the decision.
