Ex-driver accused of injuring fashion designer held

A driver who attacked and injured his former employer, a 27-year-old fashion designer, with a knife here last week has been arrested, police said on Saturday.

Anil Panwar, who was infuriated over being sacked from job, was arrested on Friday night from a night shelter near Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station, police said.

"Panwar told interrogators that he has worked as driver of Kaveri for around four months in 2016. He was fired from the job by Kaveri on the ground of misbehaving with her boyfriend in December 2016. He was claiming a month's pending salary," Deputy Commissioner of Police Ishwar Singh told IANS.

"On Sunday (May 14) afternoon, Panwar went to the victim's house in Malviya Nagar (area of south Delhi), and demanded his dues. When Kaveri refused to pay him anything, he threatened to damage her car. When Kaveri stepped outside her residence to protect her car, he attacked her with a knife," Singh said.

She was admitted to Max Hospital in Saket with injuries on her neck. She is out of danger now.

According to police, Pawar, who has been a driver for the last eight years, is a resident of Tigri in south Delhi. He is married and has two daughters.
